Update on Legislature and State Budget

The Legislature has returned to Sacramento with an unfinished 2008-09 state budget and numerous bills. The Assembly Appropriations and the Senate Appropriations Committees will hear their suspense files on Thursday and move bills to the floor for subsequent consideration.

While the rules indicate that policy committees and the fiscal committees will not meet later, the reality is that all committees probably will have further hearings to consider bills that are needed to address local problems and political issues needed for the budget considerations. The Legislature still is looking at an August 23rd adjournment date to allow members to attend their respective party’s national conventions.
