Murdoch, Walrath & Holmes (MWH) is a full-service lobbying and consulting firm with expertise on TK-12 and community college school finance and education policy.  MWH manages multiple non-profit associations advancing the cause of school facilities construction and repair in California.  This work directly supports schools, students, and communities across the state. 

Legislative Coordinator Position Summary:

MWH seeks a Legislative Coordinator professional to support the fast-paced work of our advocacy and operations teams.  This is a full-time, in-person position based in our Sacramento office.  The Legislative Coordinator assists with coordinating the policy goals and vision of a non-profit association Board of Directors.  They will interface with the leadership and members of MWH’s association clients as well as external entities, including policymakers and other organizations.  The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and willing to learn a complex policy issue. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate in-person and remote meetings for multiple association committees.  This includes but is not limited to scheduling, drafting agendas, supporting and communicating with committee chairs, preparing meeting materials, taking minutes and writing meeting summaries, marketing meetings, and on-site/day-of logistics (ordering lunch/refreshments, room set-ups, sign-in sheets, virtual links, etc.).
  • Monitor, track, research, and analyze legislation, budget, and regulatory policy issues affecting TK-14 school facilities and education finance.
  • Monitor legislative and policy hearings and draft written updates to clients.
  • Draft, edit, format, and submit position letters on bills, budget, and other policy/regulatory issues to the Legislature and state agencies/departments/offices.
  • Draft, format, and send member communications and information, including emails, news articles, social media posts, presentations, and website items.  
  • Assist the firm’s lobbyists with other legislative and policy functions.
  • Manage bill tracking and client positions in CapitolTrack (as needed).
  • When applicable, support the efforts of statewide bond campaigns, including assistance with fundraising and educating policymakers and association members.
  • Respond to client inquiries and provide assistance to association members.
  • Administrative functions including but not limited to data entry, database and file management, event coordination, submitting bill letters, taking notes, generating reports, calendaring, and more.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the operations of multiple non-profit associations.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a legislative/local or state government/policy environment, or similar experience.  Association management experience is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Willing to be physically present in an office setting daily. 
  • Familiarity with California legislative process.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize, with strong time and organizational management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams). 
  • Experience with CapitolTrack or another legislative tracking tool is preferred.
  • Comfort with various modes of technology, and experience with or ability to learn YourMembership association management software for client emails, website updates, and other functions.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally within California to support in-person association events, including conferences and meetings.

Salary and Benefits:

Hourly pay range $30.77 to $35.90.  Position is full-time – 37.5 hours per week.  We offer a full benefits package including but not limited to health/dental/vision coverage, vacation and sick leave, and 401(k).  Parking is included.
